The Illusion of Free Speech

Not long ago I was watching a remake of a certain iconic film. The remake itself was not that great but then a phrase from the dialogue caught my attention:

“It is the illusion of free will…”

In the context of the movie, a man is given the illusion of being able to choose what he does, but the choices are not the illusion; what is fake is his perception of choice.

Imagine you are that man, fully immersed in that illusion of free will. It’s almost as if someone was holding your hand but you never saw their giant invisible hands subtly and skillfully controlling all of your actions. You never saw their invisible giant hands simply because you never saw their invisible giant mind making your decisions for you either. Their giant mind skillfully guiding yours is what gave you that perfect illusion, again:

“it is the illusion of free will…”

It’s not like the character in the movie was restricted from making choices. Not at all, he actively tried and “succeeded” at making them. Because from his perspective, everything was “normal”.

However, in the context of the movie, he was living a carefully engineered daydream where all his choices had already been made. But his ability to notice had been removed thus, parts of his sentience were a fabrication.

How about you?

What if all of your choices are being made right now as you read this?

What if all of my choices were being made as well but neither you nor me were able to notice?

See, that would be better, that kind of ignorance would be bliss.

I’d much rather be oblivious to manipulation than being aware of it. But that is not the case. The reality is that we can witness how other people try to lie to us…How they try to control with very visible hands your actions. They try to hold your hand or my hand. The hand of censorship is quite clear, quite visible and quite easy to spot.

Take for example people who defend a law until their feelings get hurt. For example, people who pretend to defend free speech until someone says something against their religion. That is where free speech “has to end,” because feelings are more powerful.

I’d been thinking about the illusion of free will and how it may mirror the illusion of free speech before I decided to write this article. But what truly started it, was discussing what images to use for another unrelated article with Ethan Ralph. First we agreed the the word “Jew” could be misconstrued by hypocrites who visit this site in order to try to report it as “antisemitic.” Then, I suggested the term “Jewish People” but Ralph nixed that as well, suggesting I lay off that term, lest it also be twisted around by detractors. Finally, I haggled and said “Can I include the letter J?”

Ralph hesitated for about a minute, and responded with this:

” I don’t want references to Judaism in the cover, man.”

He then explained that his decision hinged upon the possibility that even the letter J could also be used against the site. There was a silence expressed by the lack of typing on both ends. Then I stared at my own last request with a certain degree of incredulity:

“Can I include the letter J?”

I asked Ralph this after the short pause:

“You do realize how far censorship is limiting your right to free speech, don’t you?”

He hesitated, but agreed with me. The reality is that the illusion of free speech would have been more desirable than being aware of the need to haggle for the inclusion of a mere J.

I can take letters and words out of articles over and over, but where does it end? How many concessions do I have to make to avoid “offending” someone religious?

See, this is their success at limiting ideas, because that in and of itself is the purpose of censorship. First it starts with limiting language, which in turn leads to the limitation of the ideas expressed. Simply put, if you lack the terms to express an idea, either you invent new ones, or you just do not express the idea. Does it stop there? No.

  • It starts with language
  • Then laws
  • Then ideas
  • Then people’s minds

For fuck’s sake! All we are doing on this site is publishing trashy critiques of pop culture and not even THAT passes the filter. Not even the letter J to reference the Jews.

It was truly sobering to see that even using polite words such as “Jewish People” was not enough. Because by doing that I already was conforming to PC dogma and not even that was sufficient. I can make concessions with words, as I said. But where does it end?

It doesn’t. That is the problem.

Religious people pretend they respect free speech but the reality is that they only serve one true master:

Their emotions.

Religious people can pretend they support free speech and be the most skillful of hypocrites, out there wearing their masks of virtue. But the moment they hear something that offends them? They drop the masks and want laws to change.

Their actions boil down to this:

BLASPHEMY
BLARGH!!!
THIS ATHEISM IS OFFENSIVE!
KILL THEM! IT IS ILLEGAL! BAN IT!

Religious people usually go through 3 stages:  First they want those atheists killed, but then they reconsider. Instead of requesting murder they suggest putting them in jail, so they have to switch to claiming blasphemy is “illegal.” Since it is not, they have to settle for demands it be banned.

That applies to religious people but how about feminists? Yes, the same feminists that opposed sexy videogames at the beginning of GamerGate. How do they rank when compared to religious people?

Well, first, feminists pretend they respect free speech but the reality is that they only serve one true master:

Their emotions.

Feminists can pretend they support free speech and be the most skillful of hypocrites, out there wearing their masks of virtue. But the moment they hear something that offends them? They drop the masks and want laws to change.

Their actions boil down to this:

post 2

BLARGH!!!
THIS SEXY GAME IS OFFENSIVE!
BAN IT!

Guess what? Feminists usually go through the same 3 stages religious people do:  First they want those “misogynists” killed (#KillAllMen is not always a “joke”), but then they reconsider. Requesting murder would put them in jail, so they have to switch to claiming the sexy game is  “illegal.” Since it is not, they have to settle for demands it be banned.

How about other groups that react just like religious people or feminists?

See, here is the thing, I am not even talking about Jewish people or feminists at this point. I am talking about people in GamerGate that dislike free speech. I am comparing religious people with people in Gamergate because both serve the same master:

Their emotions.

Yes, this bears repeating: Anti-RalphRetort people pretend they respect Free Speech, but the reality is that they only serve one true master:

Their emotions.

STILL SKEPTICAL?

COMPARE

Anti-RalphRetort people can pretend they support free speech and be the most skillful of hypocrites, out there wearing their masks of virtue. But the moment they heard something that offended them? They dropped the masks and wanted TO KILL THE SITE.

Their actions boil down to this:

KILL THE SITE

BLARGH!!!
THIS #RipTroll POST IS OFFENSIVE!
KILL THEM! IT IS ILLEGAL! BAN IT!

*KILL THE SITE!!!

*KILL THE SITE!!!

 *KILL THE SITE!!!

Guess what? Anti-RalphRetort SJW GamerGaters WENT (and still go through) the same 3 stages religious people and feminists do:  First they want those “Trolls” killed, but then they reconsider that requesting murder would put them in jail, so they have to switch to claiming the #RIPTrolling post is “illegal.” Since it is not, they have to settle for demands for it to be banned.

Once the demands failed, they took matters into their own hands by trying to shut the site down.  False reports, AdSense brigades and tons of blatant lies until the money was cutoff…it was all “fair game”.

It was the online equivalent of burning someone else’s building because one of the tenants offended your feelings.

After all, the site owner was asking for it, right?

Anything goes when your outrage justifies it…Right?

In essence, the owner of the site, Ethan Ralph, became the online equivalent of Satan incarnate. (Yes. I never expected Satan to be that fat either.)

How about the “pro free speech” Gamergaters? They turned into mob indistinguishable from hordes of feminists or religious people trying to hunt down their own designated “Satan”

Oh…But when you compare the actions of feminists to those of religious people, feminists tend to reply without thinking the following:

“OH NO! IT IS NOT THE SAME!”

Predictably, when you compare the actions of Anti-RalphRetort SJW GamerGaters to those of feminists, the Ralph haters also tend to reply without thinking the following:

“OH NO! IT IS NOT THE SAME!”

Wrong.

Of course is the same.

Different labels: Same behavior.

It is not what you say what counts. It is your actions.

Anti-RalphRetort SJWs behaved exactly as impulsively as the feminists and the religious zealots they claim to despise.

How? It only took one #RIPTroll article for Anti-RalphRetort SJW GamerGaters to drop their masks of virtue and behave exactly the same way feminists and religious people do, for them to say:

“That is “offensive”. BAN IT!”

Yes. The #RIPTroll article is 100% legal, yet you dear Anti-RalphRetort GamerGaters want it to disappear just as much as feminists want 100% legal games they dislike to also disappear.

The reality? Offensive free speech is still 100% legal free speech.

How many concessions do I have to make to avoid “offending” someone religious like you RalphHaters?

Answer: None. Fuck all of you.

Getting offended has no intellectual value, hence this:

fry-offence

Thank you for reading.

NOTE TO HATERS:

SJWs like you believe you are fighting “injustice,” but you are just another  group of “offended” hypocrites without a real sense of purpose in life.

(But take heart, my purpose in life is to offend you all.)

Like this site, I am here to stay and frustrate you.

Fuck your censorship.
